My first trip to Karachi was in 2014, we came for three days to meet my husband's family and spend some time with them. I remember it was sometime in the summer because my brother was home from the States and also it was hella hot in Karachi. The trip itself was a blur of lunches and dinners and Dolmen Mall! I actually had never lived in a humid place, so the humidity really got to me....and if I'm being honest, it STILL does. Almost 3 years later and I still haven't gotten used to this humidity, soon though...right??!!

Anyways, the most memorable part of the trip came the day we were flying out, my brother wanted to go to Lahore for a week to go see family and my parents and I were flying out to Dubai and then going back to Qatar. We dropped my brother off at the airport and our flight was 5-6 hours later. We get home and all over the news we see that terrorists have taken over the airport. Of course we panicked, and immediately tried calling him but thank God his flight had just taken off! Our flights had obviously been cancelled, at least for the time being. We were staying at my mom's friend's house and so we all decided to go to the airport and see what really was going on! We actually drove down to the place where all the news people were standing and reporting and we hung out there for a while until the whole thing died down, don't ask me why we thought that was the smart thing to do! I can't even remember if they actually caught the guys.

At that point in time, security level was so bad in Karachi in fact even after I got married things were pretty bad. I remember randomly the whole city would get shut down and we'd have to cancel all plans and sit at home. People had scared me so much about phones being stolen in Karachi, one day my husband had gone to get something and I was sitting in the car and this guy knocked on the window and I completely froze and wouldn't even look in that direction and pretended I couldn't hear him.....thinking he was trying to steal my phone ( something that later everyone told me I should never do, instead they said immediately hand over your phone). Anyways, In the end he had to scream through the window and be like 'you've parked behind my car, I need to get out' . LOL. Compared to that Karachi, thing's have really improved in that aspect. As much as I don't like living in Karachi, have to give credit where it's due, security has really gotten much better especially since the Rangers came!
