They say, 'good deeds should be done with intention and not attention'. The other day I was going out for dinner and saw this wall that was full of hooks, behind it I read the words "Wall of Kindness". I loved the idea and upon further investigation, found out that this was a concept that started in Iran to help the poor. It was initially called, Deewar-e- Meharbani and thanks to social media this concept has spread throughout the world, just in Pakistan you can find Walls of Kindness in multiple cities. The Wall of Kindness in Karachi was started by an actor named Ahsan Khan, the first one was on MA Jinnah road and the rest started after that!

The whole reaspm this actually started was when the United States imposed all these sanctions on Iran and their economy took a huge hit. When economies suffer, of course unemployment goes up and inflation also increases. As things got worse, during the winter in 2015, the youth in Mashhad came up with the idea of the Wall of Kindness. Their aim was to provide resources for the charities and in doing so, they helped to bring unity in the community as well. Their motto is, "leave if you do not need. Take if you need". While people can take advantage of this and take things they don't need, they trusted their community to take only what they need and leave the rest for others in need.

I feel, that because you put your contribution anonymously you don't get arrogant about it. In a world where we crave instant gratification, things like this are very necessary. So many people's happiness comes from how many "likes" they get or "followers". By giving anonymously, you keep this between Allah and yourself, you will get rewarded by Him and not people around you. Another reason I think that things like these are so necessary is that every time you drive by it, it is a constant reminder for you. It reminds you how many homeless or people in need there are and how it is our responsibility as a society to take care of not just ourselves but those around us too. We now live in times where people are only looking out for 'me', this is something that we need to change and by giving to charity, it helps us to get out of our own world and look at others and help them out. So look out for the Wall of Kindness near you and help your community out!
